Born 1945 in Calcutta, died 2023; studied natural sciences in Calcutta and composition and electronic music in Cologne with Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Karlheinz Stockhausen; pioneer of algorithmic composition and computer music from the early 1970s; professor of composition and computer music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (1994–2006) and holder of the Corwin Chair at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2006–2019).
