Born in Erfurt in 1676, died in Eisenach in 1749; Johann Bernhard Bach was an organist, harpsichordist and composer from the widely branching Bach family. After posts as organist in Erfurt and Magdeburg he became organist at the Georgenkirche in Eisenach in 1703, as successor to Johann Christoph Bach, and at the same time court harpsichordist. His surviving output comprises above all four orchestral suites on the French model, chorale arrangements and keyboard music. Until his death Johann Bernhard Bach worked in the circle of the ducal Hofkapelle in Eisenach. On the hd-klassik album Bäche – Orchestral Works of the Bach Family (2023) he is represented as composer.
