Born in Vaduz on 17 March 1839, died in Munich on 25 November 1901; Josef Gabriel Rheinberger was a Liechtenstein-German composer, organist and music teacher. At the age of seven he was organist in Vaduz; from 1851 he studied at the Royal Conservatory in Munich, where from 1859 he himself taught, from 1867 as professor of organ and composition. In 1877 he became court Kapellmeister of the royal court church in Munich. As a teacher he shaped an international body of pupils. His output comprises twenty organ sonatas, two organ concertos, masses and requiems, chamber music, operas and choral works; the organ sonatas belong to the core repertoire of the instrument. In the Cybele catalogue his music is heard on Arrangements for 2 Organs and Percussion (Vol. 1, 2017).
