Born 1952 in Helsinki, died 2023 in Paris; Kaija Saariaho was a Finnish composer. After studies in Helsinki and Freiburg she worked at IRCAM in Paris, whose research into electronics and timbre lastingly shaped her music. Her compositions join instrumental sound, electronics and finely differentiated spectral sound fields. Besides chamber and orchestral works she wrote six operas, among them “L’Amour de loin” and “Innocence”.
