Lothar Hensel was born in Dormagen in 1961. After studying school music with clarinet as his principal study in Berlin he specialised in the bandoneon in Buenos Aires and Paris, working there with Juan José Mosalini, Dino Saluzzi and Néstor Marconi, among others. As a soloist he has appeared with orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker and devotes himself above all to the music of Astor Piazzolla, which he has also recorded in his own arrangements. His compositions and bandoneon concertos join traditional tango elements to modern concert music.
