Born in Corringham, Essex, on 10 June 1960; Mark-Anthony Turnage is an English composer. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Oliver Knussen and John Lambert. The opera Greek, premiered at the Münchener Biennale in 1988, made him internationally known. From 1989 to 1993 he was composer in association of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, later with English National Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. His music links European modernism with jazz; his works include Three Screaming Popes, Blood on the Floor and the operas Anna Nicole and The Silver Tassie. In the Cybele catalogue his music is heard on piano possibile (2000).
