Michael Hablitzel

Born in Waiblingen in 1966, Michael Hablitzel is a cellist. He studied with Rudolf Gleißner in Stuttgart and with Johannes Goritzki at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, where he took his Konzertexamen; chamber music studies with the Melos Quartett Stuttgart completed his training. In 1992, with the Gideon Quartett, he received a prize at the chamber music competition for music academies in Lodz. After positions with the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss and the Philharmonisches Orchester Bielefeld he has been section leader of the cellos in the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal since 1996. From 2005 to 2022 he taught cello and orchestral studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Campus Wuppertal. He also devotes himself to chamber music and improvised music, works with choreographers and dancers and plays in a harp and cello duo with Hannah Yolanda Hablitzel. He takes part as a performer on the Undine albums Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) and Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2023 – Ich will keine Schokolade (2023).
