Born in Berlin in 1968, Michael Hamann is a violinist and composer. He came to the violin when, for his eighth birthday, an instrument that was in the family and not being played was put into his hands. He studied violin and composition in Essen and Karlsruhe and attended master classes with Herman Krebbers, Walter Levin, Reinhard Goebel and Sigiswald Kuijken. Before joining the orchestra he played with ensembles for new music such as the Musikfabrik NRW and for early music such as the Musica Antiqua Köln. Since 1996 he has been a member of the Bamberger Symphoniker in the first violin section. He is represented as a performer on the Cybele album Portrait Wolfgang Hufschmidt (1995).
