Michael Kunze

Born in Prague on 9 November 1943; Michael Kunze is a German lyricist and musical author. From 1970 he wrote numerous lyrics for Udo Jürgens, among them “Griechischer Wein”, which became the hit of the year in 1975; by his own account he has written more than 200 chart songs, including two US number-one hits. As an author of musicals he became known for “Elisabeth”, “Tanz der Vampire”, “Mozart!” and “Rebecca”; “Tanz der Vampire” also ran on Broadway in 2002/03 as “Dance of the Vampires”. On the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) Matthias Heilein sings “Was wichtig ist”, for which he wrote the lyrics; the music is by Udo Jürgens, who released the song in 2000 on his album “Mit 66 Jahren (Was wichtig ist)”.
