Founded in 1990; the soloist ensemble for contemporary music has been based in Cologne since 2003 and is today called Ensemble Musikfabrik. It has been funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since its foundation and today bears the title Landesensemble NRW. The self-governing ensemble develops new works in dialogue with the composers and draws on electronics, video, dance and theatre. Its work includes its own series such as “Musikfabrik im WDR”, the Akademie Musikfabrik and the young musicians’ project Studio Musikfabrik. In 2013 it performed Harry Partch’s “Delusion of the Fury” at the Ruhrtriennale on replicas of his instruments. On the album Sidney Corbett: Que hora es in paradiso? (2006) the musikFabrik under Johannes Debus plays Corbett’s cycle “Die Stimmen der Wände” and “Exits” for electric guitar and ensemble with the guitarist Seth Josel.
