Myriam Marbe

Born in Bucharest on 9 April 1931, died there on 25 December 1997; Myriam Marbe was a composer. She studied at the conservatory in Bucharest, among others with Mihail Jora, and taught composition and counterpoint there for several decades from 1954. Her music combines Romanian folk music and Byzantine church tradition with the means of modernism, often in ritual and temporally extended forms. Her output comprises orchestral and vocal works, chamber music and stage music; she received the prize of the Romanian composers’ union several times. In the Cybele catalogue her music is heard on without compression (1998).
