Niels Viggo Bentzon

Piano

Born 1919 in Copenhagen, died 2000 in Frederiksberg; Niels Viggo Bentzon was a Danish composer, pianist and writer. At the Royal Danish Academy of Music he studied theory, piano and organ; later he taught at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and, from 1950 to 1988, at the conservatory in Copenhagen. With more than 650 works he created one of the most extensive outputs in twentieth-century Danish music, among them symphonies, operas, piano and chamber music. His music joins neoclassical clarity to influences of the Second Viennese School, free forms and experimental means of expression.
