notabu.ensemble neue musik

Ensemble

Founded in Düsseldorf in 1989 by Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen; the notabu.ensemble neue musik is flexibly scored and plays music of the 20th and 21st centuries. In its early years the composer Günther Becker supported the group; invitations took it to the ensembletta Mönchengladbach, to the Rheinisches Musikfest, to the Braunschweiger Tage für Neue Musik and to the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Since 1988 the ensemble has appeared regularly as a guest in concerts of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker; with the support of the Auswärtiges Amt it played at festivals in Chisinau in 1995 and in Bucharest in 1996. The focal points of its work are premieres by younger composers, works of classical modernism, live music for silent films of the 1920s – for example for “Das Cabinet des Doktor Caligari” and “Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt” – and contemporary music theatre. Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen, born in Bradford in 1956, studied at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf from 1976 to 1983. In 1996 Cybele Records released the album notabu.ensemble neue musik plays works by Günther Becker.
