Born 1944 in Székelyudvarhely in Transylvania, died 2024 in Budapest; Peter Eötvös was a Hungarian composer, conductor and teacher. He studied composition in Budapest and conducting in Cologne and was a member of the Stockhausen ensemble from 1968 to 1976. As music director of the Ensemble intercontemporain he shaped the international repertoire of contemporary music from 1979 to 1991. Through operas, orchestral works and concertos and through the International Eötvös Institute and his foundation, he gave lasting support to young composers and conductors.
