* 1937 in Santa Monica, California; Ronald Rudolf Schoenberg is the elder of the two sons from Arnold Schönberg’s second marriage. He was fourteen when his father died in 1951. As a tennis player he took first place in the US national junior competition at fifteen; a tennis scholarship took him to the University of Notre Dame (Bachelor of Arts 1959). In 1964 he received a doctorate in law from Boalt Law School; he worked as a lawyer, as a deputy prosecutor and, until his retirement, as a judge at the Municipal Court. In 1965 he married Barbara Zeisl, daughter of the composer Erich Zeisl. With his siblings he co-founded the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna. On the album Arnold Schönberg: Die Prinzessin (2008) he tells, in recollections recorded in Vienna in May 2007, of his childhood with his father.
