Ruth Becker

Contemporary witness

Ruth Becker, née Bachmann, was married to the composer Günther Becker (1924–2007). The two met through their shared choir work; her own training comprised voice, flute, violin and school music. From 1956 to 1968 the couple lived in Athens, where their son Christoph was born. In 1968 the family returned to Germany, first to Essen, then to Düsseldorf; later Ruth and Günther Becker lived in Bad Lippspringe. On the album Günther Becker and the Piano (2017) she talks with Mirjam Wiesemann, in a conversation recorded on 14 May 2011 in the Beckers’ apartment in Bad Lippspringe, about their life together from their first meeting to her husband’s last hours, about the years in Greece and about how Günther Becker composed.
