Stanislav Efaev was born in Saint Petersburg in 1981. He studied at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov with G. S. Lukijanin and continued his training in Berlin with B. Sanderling and J. Saksala. He won his first competition at the age of 17. He played in international youth orchestras as well as in the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Hamburger Philharmoniker and Ensemble Modern. Since 2007 he has been principal double bass of the Philharmonisches Orchester der Hansestadt Lübeck and teaches double bass as an honorary lecturer at the Lübeck music school. He plays double bass on the album Arnold Schönberg: Die Prinzessin (Cybele Records, 2008).
