German pianist; Thomas Hitzlberger studied at the Hochschule für Musik München and in the master class of Rudolf Buchbinder at the Musikakademie Basel, where in 1984 he received the only soloist diploma in piano awarded in that year. Since 1983 he has given concerts in Europe and on other continents; he has appeared as a guest at the Carinthischer Sommer in Villach, at the Beethovenfest Bonn and at the Wiener Musiksommer. As a soloist he has played with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Rome, the Niederösterreichisches Tonkünstlerorchester – with which he performed Max Reger’s Piano Concerto op. 114 in the Goldener Saal of the Wiener Musikverein – and the Württembergisches Kammerorchester. He cultivates playing on two pianos with Rudolf Buchbinder, Siegfried Mauser and above all with Georg Schütz; his CD debut was Liszt’s Faust Symphony in the version for two pianos, together with Georg Schütz. For Cybele he recorded Franz Liszt: Transcriptions of His Own Songs (2000) and Franz Liszt: Années de pèlerinage, deuxième année: Italie (2003).
