The Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno was founded in 1990. Its founder, chorus master and artistic director is the choral conductor and composer Petr Fiala, a graduate of the Brno Conservatory and the Janacek Academy. The choir concentrates on oratorios and cantatas, gives around 90 concerts a year in the Czech Republic and abroad and has worked with Zubin Mehta, Simon Rattle and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, among others. Its programmes combine the Czech choral tradition with works ranging from the Classical period to the present day. In 2007 it received the ECHO Klassik as Ensemble of the Year, in 2009 the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik and in 2025 an Opus Klassik. In 2008 Cybele Records released Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Requiem für einen jungen Dichter with the participation of the choir.
