Vito Zuraj

* 1979 in Maribor (Slovenia); Vito Zuraj studied composition with Marko Mihevc at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, with Lothar Voigtländer in Dresden and with Wolfgang Rihm at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe, where he also completed master’s studies in music informatics with Thomas A. Troge at the ZKM. In 2009/10 he held a fellowship of the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, in 2014 of the Villa Massimo in Rome, in 2020/21 of the Villa Concordia in Bamberg. In 2012 he won the 57th Stuttgarter Kompositionspreis, in 2016 the Claudio-Abbado-Kompositionspreis of the Karajan-Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker; he also received the Slovenian Preseren-Förderpreis. Since 2017 he has been professor of composition and music theory at the University of Ljubljana. In 2023 his opera “BLÜHEN” was voted premiere of the year by the magazine Opernwelt.
