Bass tuba

Attila Benkö, born in Konstanz, first worked as a machine fitter and then studied tuba in Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Hanover; from 2008 to 2011 he completed postgraduate studies with Wilfried Brandstätter. He held a Villa Musica scholarship and has won prizes at competitions. Since 2005 he has been tuba player of the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the state orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia. As a lecturer in tuba and brass chamber music he teaches at the Musikhochschule Münster and at the Universität Siegen. Alongside his orchestral work he appears as a soloist and is active in contemporary music; in the Quartett am Ende der Zeit he plays with Roger Hanschel, Naomi Binder and Gero Körner in programmes ranging from Bach, Bartok and Piazzolla to the ensemble’s own compositions.
