Bojidar Dimov was born in Lom on the Danube on 31 January 1935 and died in Cologne on 19 June 2003. The Bulgarian composer studied piano and composition in Sofia and continued his training at the Vienna Music Academy with Karl Schiske and Hanns Jelinek; he also attended the Darmstadt Summer Courses and the Cologne courses for new music. From 1968 he lived in Cologne, where he founded the ensemble *trial and error* in 1970 and initiated at the Rheinische Musikschule both the practical course and a youth ensemble for new music. His compositions range from experimental models of space and behaviour to chamber, orchestral and music theatre works; from 1995 he taught composition at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
