Christian Roderburg

Christian Roderburg, born in Düsseldorf in 1954, works as a percussionist, marimba player, composer and teacher. From 1978 to 2017 he was active freelance as a soloist, ensemble and orchestral musician; since the 1990s a substantial part of his work has shifted to teaching, most recently as professor of percussion and percussion ensemble at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Wuppertal campus. His output comprises compositions for stage and film, recordings of new music and arrangements of Bach’s cello suites for marimba, which he has recorded complete. Alongside three solo albums he released three further albums up to 2009 with percussion ensembles that he directed himself. He also realised silent-film productions with live music. Five albums have connected him with Cybele since 1995, and the marimba stands at their centre: his arrangements of the Bach suites BWV 1007–1009 and BWV 1010–1012 appeared in 1995 and 1997, and in the same period an album of marimba music by Rolf Hildebrand (1995). To these are added two productions around Günther Becker: the Collected Works with Magnum Mysterium (2004) and the complete organ works (2009), where he takes the percussion in “Meteoron” alongside the organist Martin Schmeding.
