Born in 1957; Rolf Hildebrand is a percussionist, marimba player and composer. He studied percussion with Hans-Joachim Schacht at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen and formed a marimba and vibraphone duo while still a student; after his diploma he studied marimba with Robert van Sice. As a soloist and chamber musician he has appeared in a duo with the percussionist Christian Roderburg, in the Düsseldorfer Schlagzeugensemble and together with the saxophonist Hugo Read, among others; his work includes concerts in Germany and abroad, premieres of chamber and solo works, and radio and television productions with the WDR, ARD and SWF. The portrait album Rolf Hildebrand: Marimba (1995) presents works that mark important stages of his path with the instrument, including his own composition “Holzwege” for two marimbas, which he plays with Christian Roderburg.
