Claudia Barainsky

Claudia Barainsky was born in Berlin in 1965 and studied at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin with Ingrid Figur; she also received artistic impulses from Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann. Her repertoire ranges from the Baroque and Classical periods to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Her roles include Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s “Die Soldaten” at the Ruhrtriennale, the title role in Reimann’s “Melusine” at the Semperoper Dresden and the title role in Reimann’s “Medea” at the Oper Frankfurt, for which she received the Deutscher Theaterpreis DER FAUST in 2011. At the Staatsoper Stuttgart she sang in the world premiere of Mark Andre’s “wunderzaichen”. She has appeared as a guest in Brussels, Munich, Vienna and Tokyo among other places as well as at the festivals in Bayreuth and Salzburg, and has sung with the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Münchner Philharmoniker, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. In 2008 Cybele Records released Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Requiem für einen jungen Dichter with her as soprano soloist.
