Claudia Barainsky was born in Berlin in 1965 and studied at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Ingrid Figur; she also received artistic impulses from Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann. Her repertoire ranges from the Baroque and Classical periods to the music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. A formative focus lies on great modern roles, among them Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s *Die Soldaten* and the title role in Aribert Reimann’s *Medea*. For her interpretation of *Medea* she was awarded the German theatre prize DER FAUST; as a concert soloist she works regularly with leading orchestras, conductors and new music ensembles.
