Conrad van Alphen

Born 1963 in Pretoria; Conrad van Alphen is a South African-Dutch conductor. He began his career as a double bass player in South Africa, moved to the Netherlands at the age of 26 and studied conducting there with Eri Klas and Roberto Benzi. In 2000 he founded Sinfonia Rotterdam, whose principal conductor and artistic director he remains to this day. As a guest conductor he works with orchestras in Europe, Asia, North and South America, joining the great symphonic tradition to a markedly communicative way of rehearsing.
