Sinfonia Rotterdam

Chamber orchestra

Founded in Rotterdam in 2000; Sinfonia Rotterdam is a chamber orchestra that was known as the Rotterdams Kamerorkest until June 2009. Its founder Conrad van Alphen still leads it as chief conductor and artistic director. The orchestra performs at De Doelen and the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam, gives concert series in The Hague and Amsterdam, tours the Netherlands every year and has appeared in Russia, China, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, among other countries. Its programmes take the Classical repertoire of the 18th century, especially Haydn’s symphonies, as their starting point and combine it with works of later periods up to world premieres; soloists who have appeared with the orchestra include Janine Jansen and Ronald Brautigam. Recordings have been released by Channel Classics, Talent Records and Telarc. On the album Karl Amadeus Hartmann and the String Quartet (2009) it plays Hartmann’s Chamber Concerto for clarinet, string quartet and string orchestra under Conrad van Alphen with Arjan Woudenberg and the DoelenKwartet, recorded live at De Doelen in April 2008.
