The Ensemble Oriol Berlin was founded in 1987 and developed as a freelance string orchestra working without a permanent conductor, with a repertoire from the Baroque to the present day. Under its artistic director Sebastian Gottschick it created demanding programmes that joined older music to contemporary works and first performances. In the course of the reorganisation of the Potsdam orchestral landscape, the Ensemble Oriol merged with the Persius Ensemble of Potsdam to form the Kammerakademie Potsdam. The ensemble’s artistic experience thus lives on in today’s Potsdam chamber orchestra, whose repertoire comprises historical performance practice, classical symphonic music and new music.
