Born in Paris in 1962; Frank Schweizer is a German composer who has lived in Germany since 1965. He studied composition with Witold Szalonek at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, composition and live electronics with Günther Becker at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, composition and music theory with Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe and electronic composition with Thomas Kessler at the Musikakademie Basel. He held scholarships from the ZKM and the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung and received awards for electronic compositions in Bourges and Varese. After several years as a freelance collaborator at the Institute for Music and Acoustics of the ZKM in Karlsruhe, from 1995 he directed the sound design studios at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe; he also taught in Karlsruhe and Nuremberg and wrote commissioned works for film and multimedia. In the Cybele catalogue he appears on DEGEM Vol. 5 – Imaginary Landscapes (2000) with “Beginner’s mind” (1997), a meditation on the discovery of language in four sections, breathing, screaming, speaking and singing, and on the audiobook Mirjam Wiesemann: Weht ein Stadtspaziergang durch den Traum (2014).
