Georg Kröll

Composer

Born in Linz am Rhein in 1934; Georg Kröll is a composer. For many years he taught composition and music theory at the Rheinische Musikschule Köln. His best known work is the piano cycle Tagebuch, which he began in 1987 and continued into the 2020s; it is one of the most extensive piano cycles in the history of music. Many of his pieces start from permutations of the twelve-note row of Arnold Schönberg’s Suite for piano op. 25 and combine innovation with references to the music of the past. In the Cybele catalogue his music is heard on without compression (1998).
