Born on 24 December 1893 in Brooklyn, New York, died on 22 September 1981 in Los Angeles; Harry Warren, born Salvatore Guaragna, was an American composer. After serving in the US Navy in the First World War he began writing songs; his first published song was “Rose of the Rio Grande” in 1922 with Edgar Leslie and Ross Gorman, and in 1930 he wrote songs for the film “Spring Is Here” with Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young. In 1933 he made Hollywood his permanent home and worked with Al Dubin on Warner Brothers’ “42nd Street”, later with Mack Gordon and Johnny Mercer among others, and from 1945 to 1952 at MGM. He won the Academy Award for Best Song for 1935 with “Lullaby of Broadway”, for 1943 with “You’ll Never Know” and for 1946 with “On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe”; in 1971 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Harry Warren is named in the Cybele catalogue as a co-writer of “Have A Little Faith In Me”, sung by Björn Bergs on the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2023 – Ich will keine Schokolade (2023).
