Born on 4 July 1889 in New York City, died on 21 April 1939 in New York City; Joe Young was an American lyricist. He began as a singer for music publishers in New York and during the First World War toured Europe as an entertainer for US troops; his first major success came in 1914 with “Don’t Blame It All on Broadway”. From 1916 into the 1930s he worked with the lyricist Sam M. Lewis, in 1930 also with him and Harry Warren on songs for the film “Spring Is Here”; his classics include “Dinah”, “I’m Sitting on Top of the World” and “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter”. In 1970 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Joe Young is named in the Cybele catalogue as a co-writer of “Have A Little Faith In Me”, sung by Björn Bergs on the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2023 – Ich will keine Schokolade (2023).
