Heiner Goebbels was born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in 1952 and has lived in Frankfurt am Main since 1972. He studied sociology and music and worked first in groups such as the Goebbels/Harth duo, the Sogenanntes Linksradikales Blasorchester and Cassiber. As composer and director he develops music theatre, staged concerts, radio pieces, orchestral works and sound and video installations; central works are “Surrogate Cities”, “Schwarz auf Weiss”, “Eraritjaritjaka” and “Stifters Dinge”. Goebbels taught at the Justus Liebig University Giessen from 1999 to 2018, was artistic director of the Ruhrtriennale from 2012 to 2014 and shapes his works at the intersection of music, theatre, literature and the visual arts.
