Born in Vejle in 1935, died in Copenhagen in 2009; Inger Christensen was a poet, novelist and essayist. After leaving school in Vejle she studied in Copenhagen and completed teacher training in Aarhus in 1958; from 1955 onwards poems of hers appeared in the journal Hvedekorn. She made her debut in 1962 with the poetry collection “Lys”, followed by “Græs” (1963), “det” (1969), “alfabet” (1981) and “Sommerfugledalen” (1991), which was taken into the Danish cultural canon in 2006. Her output comprises poetry, prose, work for radio and television, essays and translations. From 1978 she was a member of Det Danske Akademi; she received, among others, the Danish Critics’ Prize (1969), the Nordic Prize of the Swedish Academy (1994) and the Rungstedlund Prize (2001). She is represented as an author on the Cybele album Rolf Riehm: aprikosenbäume gibt es, aprikosenbäume gibt es (2008).
