Born on 10 January 1917 in New York, died on 15 August 2008 in Sarasota, Florida; Jerry Wexler was an American record producer. As a writer for Billboard magazine in the 1940s he coined the term “rhythm and blues”; in 1953 he became a partner in Atlantic Records, then a small R&B label in New York. He worked with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett and Bob Dylan, among others; his productions include Franklin’s “Respect” and Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. On a gala recording by Doc Heilein and Friends, Miriam Schäfer sings “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, which Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote for Aretha Franklin in 1967 at his suggestion; on the single he is credited as a co-writer alongside King and Goffin.
