Born in Heerlen in 1953; Jo Sporck is a Dutch composer. Chamber music forms the heart of his catalogue; his works have been performed at festivals in Europe and in North and South America. He places emphasis on virtuosity, intensity and above all on melody, which he develops from tone formulae of his own. Among his works published by Donemus is the symphony “Quo vadis musica” op. 33 for orchestra, dedicated to Witold Lutoslawski. He wrote “The Sandman” for guitar and tape in 2000 after the 1995 video installation of the same name by the Canadian artist Stan Douglas and dedicated the piece to the guitarist Diangelo Cicilia. On the Cybele album New Dutch Guitar Music (2005) he is represented as a composer with this work.
