Born in Leipzig in 1735, died in London in 1782; Johann Christian Bach was the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. After his father’s death he continued his training with his half-brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in Berlin, before going to Italy in 1755, studying with Padre Martini in Bologna and working in Milan as organist and Kapellmeister, from 1760 as second organist at the cathedral. From 1762 he lived in London, where he wrote operas for the King’s Theatre, symphonies and keyboard concertos and from 1765, together with Carl Friedrich Abel, ran the Bach-Abel Concerts. He was music master to Queen Charlotte. On the hd-klassik album Bäche – Orchestral Works of the Bach Family (2023) he is represented as composer.
