Born 1918 in Düsseldorf, died there in 2010; Jürg Baur was a German composer, organist and teacher. He studied composition with Philipp Jarnach and piano and organ at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, and from 1946 onwards taught music theory at the Robert-Schumann-Konservatorium Düsseldorf. After directing that institution he was appointed professor in 1969; from 1971 to 1990 he continued the composition class of his predecessor Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Cologne Musikhochschule. His many-sided output comprises chamber, orchestral, vocal and organ music and moves in dialogue between tradition and the present.
