Born in Bonn in 1770, died in Vienna in 1827; Ludwig van Beethoven was a composer and pianist. He received his first music lessons in Bonn from his father, a tenor of the Hofkapelle. In 1792 he moved to Vienna, where he took lessons with Joseph Haydn, Johann Schenk, Johann Georg Albrechtsberger and Antonio Salieri and appeared as a pianist. His works include piano sonatas, string quartets, symphonies, the Violin Concerto and the Missa solemnis. A progressive loss of hearing, documented in the Heiligenstädter Testament, ended his career as a concert pianist. On the Cybele album Changeant (1995) he is represented as composer.
