Markus Volpert

Markus Volpert was born in Radolfzell on Lake Constance in 1972. He studied with Wolfgang Gamerith in Oberschützen and Graz and took his soloist’s diploma with distinction with Kurt Widmer in Basel; the International Opera Studio Zurich and master classes with Sena Jurinac, Christa Ludwig, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Thomas Quasthoff completed his training. He is a prizewinner of the Leipzig Bach Competition, the German Music Competition, the Graz Schubert Competition and the Anneliese Rothenberger Competition, among others. As a concert and lied singer he works with period ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln and the Freiburger Barockorchester and is heard regularly in the concerts and recordings of the J. S. Bach Foundation in St Gallen.
