Matthijs van Wijhe

Piano

* 1992; pianist; he was admitted to the young talent class of Codarts in Rotterdam at the age of 14, obtained his bachelor’s degree there with Stéphane de May and his master’s degree with Ellen Corver at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague; he attended master classes with Ronald Brautigam, Paul Lewis and Kathryn Stott, among others. He has played at the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and De Doelen, among others, and has worked with the Orchestre de Picardie, the Doelen Ensemble, the New European Ensemble and the Residentie Orkest. In 2015 he gave the world premiere of Sam David Wamper’s piano concerto “Maledizione” with the Residentie Orkest under Ed Spanjaard, in 2017 that of Peter-Jan Wagemans’ “Three Starr Dance” with Friso van Wijck. On the album Peter-Jan Wagemans: Cycles (2023) he plays Wagemans’ “Cycles” for piano, drums and sound file with the drummer Friso van Wijck and the composer on electronics.
