Born 1937 in Hamburg; Michael von Biel is a German composer and visual artist. He studied in Toronto, Vienna, New York with Morton Feldman, London and Cologne with Karlheinz Stockhausen, among other places, and took part in the Darmstadt Summer Courses. In the 1960s he was close to the Fluxus movement and later also worked in the circle around Joseph Beuys. His music and his visual work are joined by an experimental, material-conscious view of sound, time and perception.
