Morton Feldman

Composer

Born 1926 in New York, died 1987 in Buffalo; Morton Feldman was an American composer and a central figure of the New York School. His meeting with John Cage in 1949 led to a lifelong artistic association and to new forms of graphic notation and open musical processes. Feldman developed a music of extreme sonic concentration in which time, silence, colour and perception acquire particular importance. From 1972 he taught at the University at Buffalo, where he remained until his death.
