Born in France in 1960; Nic Jemming is a composer and copywriter. From 1965 he lived in Luxembourg, where he attended primary and secondary school until 1979; in 1974 he began to study guitar and music theory, and from 1977 he had lessons with the Luxembourg composer Marcel Wengler. In 1980 he began to study composition and music theory with Nicolaus A. Huber and electronic music with Dirk Reith at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen; he worked with analogue and hybrid sound synthesis as well as computer music, and in his compositions he turns language material, composed or found as an objet trouvé, into a musical message. In 1985 he won the Folkwang Prize, and in 1986/87, with a promotion scholarship, he worked alongside Wolfgang Hufschmidt and Dirk Reith on a speech epic using the means of theatre and audiovisual media. From 1988 to 1991 he worked in computing, then as an advertising copywriter for radio and television. On the Cybele album ex machina Vol. 5 – The Eighties (2001) he is represented with “Angélique, mais sans dieu” (1985) for four-channel tape, whose floating four-part glissando ostinato shapes the whole piece.
