Born in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1934, died in Essen in 2018; Wolfgang Hufschmidt was a composer, church musician and university teacher. From 1954 to 1958 he studied church music and composition with Siegfried Reda at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen and subsequently worked in several parishes in Essen. In 1971 he became professor of composition, and from 1988 to 1996 rector of the Folkwang-Hochschule. His output ranges from chamber and vocal music to literary and multimedia projects; with edition V and the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr he was committed to contemporary music.
