Wolfgang Hufschmidt

Composer

Born 1934 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, died 2018 in Essen; Wolfgang Hufschmidt was a German composer, church musician and teacher. From 1954 to 1958 he studied church music and composition with Siegfried Reda at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen and then worked in several Essen parishes. In 1971 he became professor of composition and from 1988 to 1996 rector of the Folkwang-Hochschule. His work ranges from chamber and vocal music to literary and multimedia projects; with the edition V and the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr he gave important institutional impulses to contemporary music.
