Born 1958 in ’s-Hertogenbosch; Oscar van Dillen is a Dutch composer, flautist, conductor and visual artist. His training took him from North Indian classical music, jazz and the flute by way of early music to composition studies in The Hague, Rotterdam and Düsseldorf. From 1997 he taught at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam and developed his concept of an original world music composition in which composed and improvised traditions meet. As founder and artistic director of the Olduvai Ensemble he joins sound research, intercultural experience and an open, precise sense of form.
