Ricardo Rapoport

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1958 and died in Paris in 2023; Ricardo Rapoport played modern bassoon and baroque bassoon. In his native city he studied bassoon with Noël Devos, as well as guitar, viola da gamba, harmony, composition, orchestral conducting and architecture, before becoming a member of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 he moved to Paris, gained a Premier Prix with Maurice Allard at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and went on to postgraduate study in chamber music with Maurice Bourgue. As a holder of a French state scholarship he went to the Banff Centre in Canada, where he took up the baroque bassoon. He made music with ensembles such as Les Musiciens du Louvre, La Petite Bande, Le Parlement de Musique and Le Concert Spirituel and taught bassoon, baroque bassoon and chamber music at the conservatoire in Rennes. Alongside first performances of contemporary works stands his world premiere recording of the six bassoon sonatas of Antoine Dard for the Ramée label; in 2020 Cybele released the recording Dreyer.
