Sascha Reckert is a musician, instrument maker and director who has specialised since 1986 in glass instruments and their repertoire. He reconstructs, restores and researches historical instruments, among them the glass harmonica, and with the verrophone developed a contemporary variant of this instrument. For the Salzburg Festival in 1991 he reconstructed the glass harmonica for the first performance of Richard Strauss’s *Die Frau ohne Schatten* in its original instrumentation. With the founding of *sinfonia di vetro* in 1996 he created a specialised ensemble for opera, orchestral and chamber music with glass instruments and made a central contribution to the rediscovery of this repertoire.
