Schola der Mönche der Abtei Marienstatt

Chant schola of the Cistercian abbey of Marienstatt in the Westerwald, formed from monks of the community. It sings Gregorian chant in the daily choral office and in the liturgy of the early Gothic abbey church, which has borne the title of a basilica minor since 1927. The abbey was founded in 1212 and moved to the Nister valley near Hachenburg in 1222; it belongs to the Mehrerau Congregation. In the Cybele catalogue the schola is heard on two albums: with live recordings from the choral office on Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt – Live Recordings from the Liturgical Celebration (1997) and in alternation with the organ on Organ Improvisations on Cistercian Chants (1999), a concert recording made on 26 April 1998.
