Born in 1958; Tilmann Claus is a composer, music theorist and university teacher. He studied instrumental composition in Munich with Dieter Acker, in Cologne with Jürg Baur and in Milan with Giacomo Manzoni, electronic composition in Cologne with Hans Ulrich Humpert and music theory in Cologne with Roland Löbner. After teaching assignments in electronic composition at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf he became professor of artistic music theory at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Dortmund department, in 1997, where he was also vice-dean, and in 2004 professor of music theory at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. There he was dean of Faculty 1, from 2013 vice-rector for studies, teaching and research and, from October 2021 to September 2025, rector. At Cybele Records he is represented as a composer and performer on DEGEM Vol. 5 – Imaginary Landscapes (2000).
